Sinn Féin TD Brian Stanley stressed the urgency for updated wind regulations to Minister for planning Jan O’Sullivan last week, asking for a 6 month moritorium.
“Regulations urgently need to be put in place to protect rural residents, the landscape and the environment, particularly across the Midlands,” he said. listing concerns over set back distances relative to turbine height, shadow flicker and noise.
“The Government plans to have draft guidelines at the end of the year, with final ones in place in 2014. This is too little too late and the damage will already be done,” he said.
Minister O’Sullivan reply states that a government study on turbine noise is underway.
