Be informed on Peru wind turbines

Credit:  Berkshire Eagle | 10/04/2013 | www.berkshireeagle.com ~~

I am writing to express my concerns with Industrial Wind Turbines (IWTs) in our town. Whether pro-wind or no-wind, the prospects of IWTs have caused much division within our community. I personally believe that money and power, along with the “green energy flagship” have been used to influence our town’s people.

My family and I have always been avid supporters of green energy and most importantly, conservation. We recycle, combine trips to town to conserve fuel and try to limit our water usage.

We believe the community should be heard when making such a major decision that will impact so many lives. After all, once installed, there is no turning back. The installation of these wind turbines will have a substantial impact on those living within two miles. The possibility of adverse health effects is all too real. I do not believe that numerous people, including small children, should be adversely affected for the monetary benefit of a few.

We, as a family, ask the townspeople to support a two-year moratorium to allow for further research on health effects and proper location of IWTs. This would also give us more time to investigate the impact IWTs have on wildlife. There is a public hearing scheduled for Oct. 7 at the town hall. This public hearing is an informational session to give the people the knowledge required to make an educated decision on whether to allow IWTs in our town. Please attend the town meetings and ask our town officials to help. They have the power to do so! Please take notice of any fliers you may receive. Information will be disseminated as to when important meetings are scheduled.
