New wind turbine planned next to A1

Berwick Advertiser | 26 September 2013 | www.berwick-advertiser.co.uk

Plans for a 126m tall wind turbine close to the A1 trunk road at Charlton Mires, north of Alnwick, have been revealed.

The proposed turbine would also be within view of the new Middlemoor and Wandylaw wind farms which hold 28 turbines.

Haltwhistle-based Stillwind have submitted a request for a screening opinion to Northumberland County Council.

The proposal is for a maximum tower height of 85m and a maximum tip height of 126m with an anticipated installed capacity of 1.5MW, generating electricity to power 855 homes a year.

A limited number of homes are within 1km of the proposed location, including Charlton Mires (415m), Patterson Cottage (460m) and South Charlton (890m).

Rhona Still, company director, said: “Stillwind believes that the proposal will result in non-significant landscape and visual effects.”
