Anger over new turbines plans

More protests have met the latest application for wind turbines in North Lancashire.

Residents of Crag Bank Road, Carnforth, have opposed a plan by John Barton, of neighbouring Edenbrook House, for two 113-ft structures on a triangular field at the property.

They say the three-bladed turbines would be visible from their homes, diminish their value and harm scenic views.

According to planning documents, the applicant wants the renewable energy scheme approved to produce 100kW of electricity and ensure the agricultural activities which take place on the land are both environmentally and financially sustainable.

But Valerie Hammill, of The Drive, Crag Bank, said: “I’ve lived here for 50 years and shed tears at the thought that anything could be done to ruin this area. The turbines will be very dominant in our lovely views across Warton Sands, Silverdale, Warton Crag and the Langdale hills.”

Mrs Hammill said the area had rich bird life and granting planning permission would set a precedent for more schemes on the Morecambe Bay coast.

Lancaster City Council planners will consider the proposal at a future meeting.

If granted, planning documents say the turbines would be delivered in parts and not require ‘unduly large vehicles’.
