Collector windfarm clears approval hurdle

The State Planning Department has recommended an almost 70-turbine wind farm be approved in the Upper Lachlan Shire.

The Collector Wind Farm is being proposed by RATCH Australia on a site south west of Goulburn.

The project development manager, Anthony Yeates, says it still needs permission from the Planning Assessment Commission.

“The PAC will go through their process, we anticipate that will probably take somewhere between 6 weeks and 10 weeks,” he said.

“Hopefully an approval decision will come through, should the PAC consider that appropriate, during what’s left of this year.”

He says the company has tried to appease the concerns of residents during the development stage.

“We’ve tried wherever we can to minimise the impacts.

“There are no non-participating residences within 2 kilometres of any of our turbines, I think that’s an important point to note.

“I’m glad to see the department has reached the same conclusion as us, that it’s a well thought out and well considered proposal, it’s inside all of the development guidelines and it’s a proposal worth proceeding with.”
