Eleventh-hour appeal over wind farm plan rejection

Campaigners who dared to dream they had heard the last of controversial plans for a wind farm on their doorsteps have been dealt an 11th hour blow.

Force 9 Energy and EDF have been accused of showing “contempt” for residents after lodging an appeal on Friday against Aylesbury Vale District Council’s decision to reject its application for four 125m turbines near Stoke Hammond.

The plans were turned down in March and Friday was the last day that an appeal could have been made.

Stop Dorcas Lane Turbines vice chairman Joseph Cresswell said: “We are disappointed but not at all surprised that Force 9 and EDF have decided to appeal against the democratic decision to refuse consent.

“We will present a strong case to the planning inspector to enable them to uphold the refusal of consent. We are confident this development will be stopped.”

David Butterworth, of Force 9 Energy, said: “We have carefully reviewed the reasons cited for refusal and do not consider that the council has attributed sufficient weight to relevant national energy policies. A public inquiry will provide an opportunity for us to present evidence that demonstrates that the site is a suitable location for a wind farm of this size.”
