Wind Turbine group step up campaign

Published on the 19 September 2013 longfordleader.ie

The Legan and Ballycloughan Wind Turbine Awareness group will be delivering information leaflets to all homes in the area.

“We’ve produced a leaflet and it will be delivered over the next couple of weeks,” explained Group PRO Edel Kelly.

Ninety-two out of 114 or over 80 per cent of submissions received for the recent review of the Longford County Development Plan were based on wind energy.

Ms Kelly added: “Due to the fact that 80% of the submissions were in relation to concerns regarding the imposition of wind turbines we met with a number of local representatives last Wednesday night in Legan.”

Deputies James Bannon and Robert Troy, along with Councillors Colm Murray, Thomas Victory, Larry Bannon and Mick Cahill attended and they suggested a public meeting should be organised with a wind energy production company representative.

Ms Kelly added: “We spoke about our aims and objectives and we are also seeking a follow-up meeting with Longford County Council.
