One of three planning applications for new wind farms in Caithness was approved by Highland councillors at a meeting on Tuesday.

The north planning committee voted seven to six in favour of the Scottish Power Renewables’ 15-turbine scheme at Halsary Forest, near Watten.

RWE Npower Renewables’ 13 turbines at Bad a Cheo, Spittal, was rejected.

A decision on Whirlwind Renewables’ five turbines at West of Mybster Farm, Spittal, was deferred.

Councillors are to visit the proposed sites before meeting later to discuss the projects.
