Anti-wind protestors met the Liberal float at International Plowing Match 2013, today at Mitchell in this photograph tweeted by Todd Smith, Prince Edward Hastings MP.

Various groups organized an “Unwilling Host” protest to be held during the opening day parade where the political parties have floats to woo rural voters. The route was lined with people representing 66 “unwilling host” municipalities, including Prince Edward County.

The 100th anniversary for the iconic five-day rural extravaganza. Politicians attend to connect with rural voters and the agriculture sector, which employs just under 750,000 people and contributes an estimated $33.8 billion to Ontario’s economy.

The protest plan was kept confidential as organizers of the Plowing Match already forced a neighbouring farmer to remove an anti-wind mobile sign from his field and a request for a float in the parade was denied.
