Opponents of wind farm are being kept in dark, claims MP

Are the opponents of a large wind farm at the lower Alt between Lydiate and Ince Blundell being kept in the dark over new questions of safety?

South Sefton MP, Bill Esterson thinks they may be.

According to a national newspaper a report has been compiled by the Government questioning the safety of on-shore wind farms. It appears that Lib Dem ministers have tried to prevent its publication.

Mr Esterson told the Champion: “I have written to the Lib Dem Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Ed Davey, requesting a copy of the report. It appears the Lib Dem side of the coalition is strongly in favour of wind farms, while the Conservatives have more mixed views on the subject.

”But if evidence has been produced showing safety concerns to people living nearby, than this should be published.

“Clearly we need to explore all the options for renewable energy, but those affected by wind farms need to know the truth. I hope that the Secretary of State has not suppressed a report about the safety of wind farms and I have asked him to send me a copy or explain why he is refusing to do so.

”My constituents have the right to see all the evidence both positive and negative, and to know what if any risk they face from the plans for a large wind farm near where they live. “It would be reckless to deny people the information and it would be profoundly disturbing if the Lib Dems – or for that matter the Conservatives – decided not to publish such information.”
