Article didn’t say why decision on wind project was delayed

I was wondering why in Michael Sawyers’ article of Aug. 28 (“PSC defers decision on company’s request for more time to build wind turbines atop Dan’s Mountain,” Page 1A), he neglected to report why the Maryland Public Service Commission members delayed the decision concerning Dan’s Mountain Wind Force’s request for an extension of their project until Sept. 4.

I gave you and him the information; what happened to the writing principles of an article should always answer the questions of “who, what, where, when, and why”?

The Cumberland Times-News is always preaching full disclosure of information should be available to the public, but yet the writers of the Times-News are the worst offenders.

The Dan’s Mountain wind turbine project runs 2½ miles from the top of the Harwood subdivision, south to the other end of Bel Air on the Dan’s Mountain ridgeline.

You should do an Internet survey to see how many residents know where the wind turbines are actually going to be placed. The residents do not know because you refused to print a map in 2009 or even do an Internet link.

Now, you do not disclose that the PSC questioned the issue of zoning; Dan’s Mountain Wind Force said that they needed the extra time to obtain relief from Allegany County zoning ordinances.

PSC decided to defer this decision until, Sept. 4 in order to get a letter from the DNR Power Plant Research Program if any additional comments or conditions should be imposed on the project.

This is a plus for the 225 home owners who live within a mile radius of the turbines; the PSC is actually looking out for the residents of Allegany County.

The readers deserve the whole truth 100 percent of the time; you are doing a total disservice to the residents of Allegany County in this article.
