Second thoughts on turbine

A produce company is reviewing its plants to install a wind turbine after receiving planning permission.

John Lankfer Produce was given the green light by West Norfolk Council’s planning committee to put up the 55kw turbine near its factory in Wisbech Road, West Walton, at a meeting on Monday.

But following objections from nearby residents company owner John Lankfer is now taking a second look at the project.

He said: “We are reviewing the situation as we did not realise the strength of opposition.

“We do not want to upset local people.”

The company applied to install the turbine, which has a mast of 25 metres with 10 metres blade diameter, to provide an energy supply.

Nearby resident Fiona Murfitt spoke out against the plans during Monday’s meeting in Lynn Town Hall.

Mrs Murfitt told councillors that her home is 183 metres away from the turbine site and will suffer from noise.

She said: “We do have bats in our garden and the orchard is likely to support a range of specialist wildlife.”

Gill Watson from the council’s community safety and neighbourhood nuisance told the meeting that homes in the area would suffer from a minimal amount of shadow flicker created by the turbine.
