Wind energy moratorium in Peru

Berkshire Eagle | 08/29/2013 | www.berkshireeagle.com

The wind energy bylaws in Peru were written in 2005. As we have learned in recent months, many of these bylaws are outdated and flawed. There have been quite a few changes in the wind industry since 2005. In fact the Massachusetts Executive Office of Environmental Affairs revised its Model ByLaw on Wind Energy in 2012. I believe we should bring Peru’s bylaws up to date.

We are asking for a temporary moratorium on the construction and use of land for wind energy in Peru. This temporary moratorium will give all residents a chance to revisit and reconsider the bylaws as they are written now. Also, a temporary moratorium just may be the waiting period we need in this town before the town becomes even more divided.

I believe this is our chance, as a town, to come together and decide on bylaws that will be beneficial to each and every citizen of Peru.
