60MW Adelaide hit with appeal

Opponents have launched an appeal against NextEra Energy Canada’s 60MW Adelaide wind project in southwestern Ontario.

The Environment Ministry earlier this month issued a renewable energy approval for the feed-in tariff scheme.

Two local residents and the Middlesex-Lambton Wind Action Group have filed appeals. The Environmental Review Tribunal has yet to set any hearing dates.

NextEra proposes to build 37 GE 1.62MW turbines with 80-meter hub heights and a 34.5/115kV collection substation. Adelaide will share a 115kV interconnection transmission line with two neighboring wind projects, 75MW Bornish and 150MW Jericho.

The Florida-based developer was awarded eight 20-year FiT contracts with the Ontario Power Authority. Contractor HB White Construction is overseeing work at the 128.8MW Summerhaven wind farm in Haldimand County, which features Siemens 2.3MW turbines with 80-meter towers.

REAs have been granted for Bornish and 60MW Bluewater, however appeal proceedings are underway.

Regulators also are reviewing REA applications for another three projects. Decisions are expected in the coming months for 23MW East Durham and 102MW Goshen. Comments may be submitted through 31 August on the Jericho proposal.
