Wind turbine study, damage claim on Fond du Lac County Board agenda

A full agenda will greet the Fond du Lac County Board of Supervisors when it meets this week, including an agenda item related to wind farms and another stemming from a June attack on horses at Free SPIRIT Riders.

The Board will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Legislative Chambers of the City County Government Center, 160 S. Macy St. The public is encouraged to attend. Meetings are also televised live on Charter Cable channels 21/980.

• Supervisors will vote on a resolution asking the state to fund and complete a study on the impact of wind turbines on human health.

A number of area residents who say their health is negatively affected by turbines appeared at a recent County Board of Health meeting to ask for a study. That Board voted to send the matter to the full County Board.

A total of 168 wind turbines have been constructed in the townships of Marshfield, Calumet, Byron, Oakfield and Eden.

Residents living near the wind turbines complain of health problems that include sleeplessness, noise, exhaustion, headaches, head and ear pressure and anxiety.

• Free SPIRIT Riders Inc., W3950 Highway 23, has submitted a claim for $4,500 for injuries to animals that occurred June 10 at the therapeutic horse-riding facility.

The funds would come from an account established for damage by dogs to domestic animals, including ranch mink. The fund is derived from fees collected for dog licenses.

In other action:

• A resolution will honor the life and service of Patricia Kraus, former Fond du Lac County Register of Deeds, who died June 3. A second resolution will express gratitude for years of service for the 18 county employees that retired in recent months.

• Supervisors will be asked to appropriate $2,500 from the general fund to pay half the cost of printing additional copies of the promotional booklet, “Breaking Bread in the Holyland.” Initial copies ran out quickly and tourism representatives in Fond du Lac and Calumet counties have requested that an additional 2,500 copies be printed with both counties splitting the cost.
