Turbine protest on the cards

Northumberland Gazette | 15 August 2013 | www.northumberlandgazette.co.uk

Villagers are to stage a mass protest in Belford to show how the transportation of wind turbines will affect them.

Organised by the Middleton Burn Action Group the protestors will replicate the size of vehicles which will transport parts of wind turbines through the village as part of Energiekontor’s plans for a nine-turbine windfarm at Middleton Burn.

It will take a minimum of 46 people holding two-metre cards to represent the size of the transport, which is the same length as four double-decker buses.

At midday on Sunday, protestors will carry the boards down North Bank and attempt to turn right onto the B6349, one of the proposed routes for the wagons.

All necessary requirements including police liaison, road closure notices and a permit for ‘thronging of crowds’ are in the process of being obtained.

Anyone wishing to show their support and take part in the protest should meet at the top of North Bank at the junction of Cragmill Road, at 11.45am.
