Wind park: Wider implications than anticipated

YLE | 14.8.2013 | yle.fi

The planned Humppila-Urjala wind power park in south-west Finland is the subject of heated debate as its environmental impact may extend to nine municipalities in the region.

Dozens of wind turbines that would be visible and affect up to nine neighbouring communities are the topic of much debate following a public meeting in Urjala on Tuesday. The planned Humppila-Urjala wind power park in the Häme district will be discussed on Wednesday in a public meeting in Humppila.

The proposed wind power park, to be built by the Voimamylly company, is to feature up to 40 wind turbines in the Humppila and Urjala region. Tower heights would range from 120 to 140 metres, with the total height including turbine blades reaching up to 200 metres. The environmental impact of the park would extend to nine municipalities in the region, including Loimaa, Punkalaidun and Huittinen.
