Cardigan wind turbine plans near golf club dropped

BBC News | 14 August 2013 | www.bbc.co.uk

Controversial plans to build a wind turbine near a Ceredigion golf club have been dropped.

The Cardigan Fair Wind co-operative proposed a 67 metre (220 ft) structure at Bryn Farm, a few hundred yards from Cardigan Golf Club at Gwbert.

But landowner Huw Jones has withdrawn his permission.

Cardigan Fair Wind said the turbine could power 300 homes and produce income to fund renewable energy schemes. It is looking for a new site.

The golf club overlooks the Teifi Estuary and Cardigan Bay coastline.

The proposed turbine sparked controversy because members said it would be detrimental to the club and potentially cause it to lose money.

It was also suggested the wind turbine could cast a flickering shadow on the golf course.
