CAW turbine winds up health complaints

There’s more concerns about alleged health effects being caused by the Canadian Auto Workers wind turbine in Port Elgin.

Saugeen Shores Deputy Mayor Luke Charbonneau says he recently visited a family who claims to be suffering from migraine headaches since the turbine went into operation in late March.

Charbonneau says the unidentified family lives less than a kilometre from the turbine on Stickel Street, reporting migraines when the turbine is operational and the wind is blowing from the west off Lake Huron. He says the family leaves their home to find relief from the headaches, but adds the symptoms return upon re-entering their home.

Charbonneau says there has also been recent documentation of shadow flicker being cast by the turbine on neighbouring homes, despite the CAW testifying to the Ontario Municipal Board that there would be no shadow flicker from the turbine on any homes.

Charbonneau adds there was promise from outgoing CAW President Ken Lewenza that the union would not allow human health to be impacted by their wind turbine and now the union must demonstrate how it will solve the health concerns being voiced by the community.
