Police investigating after anti-wind turbine signs stolen from Chatham-Kent home

A Chatham-Kent woman has been the target of thieves after placing anti-wind turbine signs on her property.

Judy Park, of Tupperville, said she and her husband Joe returned home late the night of July 28 and discovered the following morning that four of their anti-wind turbine signs had been stolen from their private property. She said a fifth sign was pulled out of the ground and knocked down. Park valued two of the signs at $30.

She said it’s frustrating to have property stolen by “cowards” who are “afraid to voice their opinion.”

“The (wind turbines) represent the total corruption of the Liberal government,” she said. “Do you really and truly want your Ontario covered with these things? That is what is going to happen.

“I can’t drive up to Mitchell’s Bay without closing my eyes. It just brings me to tears,” she added.

Park also noted many people report having health issues from living too close to the turbines.

Deputy Chief Gary Conn, of the Chatham-Kent Police Service, confirmed Sunday that a police report was filed regarding the theft. He said an officer canvassed the area and neighbours, but at this time, there is no information regarding potential suspects.

A similar incident took place in Erieau, when Blenheim-area resident David Libby returned to his SUV in early July to find his windshield broken. Libby also displayed anti-wind turbine signs, and upon retuning to his vehicle found one stolen from his SUV.
