Planning refused for Kinlough wind turbine

Up on 70 people submitted objections to the planning application for a wind turbine at Laghta, Kinlough.

The application was refused planning permission by Leitrim County Council on Thursday, August 1.

The Cork based Reforce Energy Ltd applied for permission to erect a single electricity generating wind turbine of hub height up to 60m and rotor diameter up to 48m at Laghta, Kinlough.

The application sough permission for a hardstanding, control building, associated site roads, drainage and site works The planning application which was first submitted in June this year was accompanied by an Environmental Report (ER).

The application attracted one of the highest levels of public objections to a planning application in Leitrim, with almost 70 people voicing their opinion.

The objections included An Taisce, Cllr Siobhan McGloin and Chairperson of Kinlough & District Community Council, Kinlough Community Development Company, Glenade Development Association, The HSE Principal Environmental Officer.

The majority of submissions against the application came from residents in the Kinlough, Tullaghan and Glenade area. Cllr Tony Ferguson also made representations to the council in relation to the application. A public meeting had been held locally to discuss the issue in Kinlough last month and an action group had been set up.

Reforce Energy is a renewable energy company focused on small-scale renewable projects across various technologies. It is not understood if the decision will be appealed by the applicant.
