Kingston: Turbine and tests off

Struck by lightning. That’s essentially what happened to the studies planned to determine possible health effects of the wind turbine on Kingston’s former landfill next to Route 3.

The operator of the Kingston Wind Independence (KWI) says a lightning strike destroyed the electronics that control the turbine. In its current state, it can’t be tested. Replacement electronics are on order from the turbine’s manufacturer in South Korea. The three adjacent turbines continue to turn.

The Kingston Board of Health met Monday night. The subject was turbines, a subject that generally draws a large crowd. One anti-turbine activist of Duxbury sat in the audience with two members of the press.

The board had no study result, no engineer set to interpret the study. The board will seek more engineering help while waiting for the KWI turbine to become operational.
