Do you want county covered by turbines?

Credit:  Kokomo Tribune | July 30, 2013 | kokomotribune.com ~~

People of Tipton County: I come to you to ask each of you to take the time to think of a future in Tipton County when you won’t be able to look in any direction without seeing wind turbines.

I know a lot of you are tired of hearing the arguing back and forth over this issue and feel you have no dog in this fight. But you most certainly do if you just take the time to think for just a minute or two.

As a friend of mine told me, can you imagine, as your child grows up, wanting to capture the loving moments on film. If we don’t repeal this wind ordinance, almost every picture we take of the children outdoors will have a giant wind turbine in the background.

The plan here, folks, by the wind companies – and supported by some of your elected officials and a few landowners – is to cover your beautiful county with 800 of these giants! This is not a novelty but pure destruction of our countryside.

The time is rapidly approaching for a public meeting that will decide the future for many of us for a lifetime. I am 58 years old and maybe just a little biased on the county we live in today. But I would like my grandchildren and all of your children to be able to enjoy the beautiful county the good Lord gave us!

We can find all the information you want, pro and con, but it all boils down to no one knows for sure what the long-term medical problems are with these things. People from around the world are opening up and telling of all kinds of issues. Most experts will admit there needs to be studies to understand what impacts can happen to people around these things.

I for one don’t want to put the almighty dollar bill in front of the health and safety of any county resident! I ask each of you to please ask yourself how you would feel if a member of your family was adversely affected because you did not get involved. Folks, if this goes forward, you have committed for at least 30 years and up to 50 years.

We are trying to raise signatures to pressure our leaders to understand they need to think of us first, not their pockets and private interest! Please contact your commissioners and express your concerns. You can contact me at tiptoncrd@googlegroups.com.

There’s controversy, so let’s fix the cause

Leaders of Tipton County: There is fallout from E.ON’s first phase of the Wildcat Wind Farm. What’s done is not done! It’s unacceptable!

These people have been and are suffering loss, just like your flood victims and farmers’ crops in the rainy season. Nature caused these problems, but you created the wind farm mess. Maybe unintentionally, but it’s there.

There are major issues of property and health, but simple pleasures of life that make up the personal well-being have been stripped away – the things each of us take for granted and want at the end of the day. These are not things people driving by or sitting under a turbine for a short time will find. One must walk in their shoes, daily living among them day and night.

No TV to relax by in the evening. No cellphone or Internet that connects you to your family or friends, or emergency personnel in emergencies. Continued dimming lights. The right to sit on the patio to enjoy nature and peace and quiet, maybe cookouts with family and friends.

What are we thanking the wind company for? Messed up airwaves, jet engine noise 24/7. Cut communications. Missing sleep, joy and peace. Lives filled with stress.

The Indiana Regulatory Commission helped me and fixed our issues, except for the antenna. But this also makes a complaint filed in writing. You’re paying for service you’re not getting.

Farmers say they’re wanting to lease to wind companies to increase income and save the family farm for the next generations. Don’t you get taxpayer subsidies?

Others want increased income and invested in their homes to leave something for their children, too.

Yes, your land would increase in value because of the added turbines, and your pockets would be a little fuller. Meanwhile, the average homes nearby decrease in value. So our children should take the loss?

Is it true that landowners leased their land to the wind company and have leased that same land to other farmers to farm? Taxpayer-paid wind farm subsidies: Isn’t that double-dipping, or is it a trivial issue?

Is it true our leaders have removed a section of an ordinance that required the landowners to remove turbines in the event the wind company failed to remove them?

Again, the burden is placed on the taxpayers!

If any more industrial wind farms are built in Tipton County, it will be intentional to infringe on others’ rights after knowing the pain it induced on the community of phase one of the Wildcat Wind Farm. You have the facts in writing. They are not based on fear.
