Huron East wind appeal denied

Written by Bob Montgomery, Reporter | July 29, 2013 | blackburnnews.com

The Mayor Huron East says the municipality’s attempt to appeal part of the St. Columban Wind Project has been denied by the Province’s process created to deal with appeals.

Bernie MacLellan explains the municipality’s objective was to make sure the rules were being followed, and they were not appealing the entire project but were concerned about one specific turbine.

MacLellan says that turbine is close enough to a road that if it fell, it would fall across an entire intersection.

MacLellan points out the MTO would not allow a structure that close to a road so he questions why the municipality is being forced to allow a turbine that close to the road.
MacLellan adds Provincial officials refused to answer that question and their concerns don’t fit any of the other criteria for an appeal.

The municipality’s next step is to apply for intervenor status in an appeal being launched by Huron East Against Turbines and hope they can raise their concerns at that hearing.
