Peace lost in Owl’s Hollow

L from Owl’s Hollow No Wind: Turbine-Free AL | www.nowindal.com

Our family lives in the Owls Hollow community and our home and 180 acre farm are within a half mile of the area proposed for Pioneer Green’s industrial wind turbines.

We love our home, land, and everything about the area…the wildlife, the trees, the mountains, open blue skies, and spring fed creeks…just beautiful country living. My husband and I built our home here in 2006, taking virgin ground and creating our home and cattle farm.

It means the world to us to be here, raising our 2 little girls. From feeding cows to catching frogs, our girls live and breath farm living. We are fighting to keep industrial wind turbines off this mountain and away from our family and community.

We never would’ve dreamed we would be here, fighting for the home that we have so proudly built…from our view, to our property value, to our quality of life. Our mountain tops will be scalped and blasted, only to be replaced by large, loud, bird killing machines.

Our peaceful, country nights will now be filled with the red, blinking lights atop the turbines, along with the whooshing sound of the blades. Our days flickering on and off like a light switch when the sun beams through the turbine blades just right.

We fear frequent headaches, nausea, depression, and sleepless nights becoming a reality. We now live in fear for the health and safety of our family.

Our home is in a valley, between 2 mountains. We hear so many noises and echoes from great distances…the vibrations and noises that the turbines produce are sure to be an issue for us.

Many families in our community are facing these same fears because wind developers sees a chance to profit.

In a place where we beg for a breeze in the Summer, somehow this company sees fit to harvest wind…at the expense of our homes and our quality of life.

All over the country, turbines are being abandoned, because wind energy just doesn’t work…but these companies still seek out fresh areas for new wind projects and gain plenty of government subsidies to fill their pockets.

We want our mountain and all of Alabama to remain turbine free. No wind means no energy. We will continue to pray and fight to save our community.
