Woodstoke celebration

An event to thank supporters of a campaign against controversial plans for a wind farm was met with community spirit – despite the possibility of an appeal.

In March, a crowd of protesters united against the plans for turbines near Stoke Hammond and were overjoyed to see the proposal quashed by Aylesbury Vale councillors.

Saturday’s event thanked residents from Stoke Hammond, Drayton Parslow, Soulbury, Newton Longville, Stewkley, Great Brickhill, and Hollingdon who supported Stop Dorcas Lane Turbines (SDLT).

Executive member of the campaign group, Dean Jackson, said: “It was an excellent event. It always amazes me how the community comes together. It was fantastic.

“The weather was really kind to us and it was nice to have a little cloud and a gentle breeze blowing to keep everyone cool after the last couple of weeks of hot weather.”

The music event, which was attended by over 450 people, was organised by seven women, who are the wives of the executive members of SDLT. The day raised £2,500 that will be used, if needed, in the future for legal expenses if the appeal goes ahead.

Dean added: “We wanted to give something back to the community who have been supporting us for the past two years. It is unknown if the developers will appeal.

“They are still looking into the reasons it was refused and we’re waiting to hear whether they will appeal or not.”
