People of Wales getting bad deal with wind turbine move

Shropshire Star | July 25, 2013 | www.shropshirestar.com

The people of Powys, and Wales generally, should be up in arms to learn that the Swedish wind farm developers, Vattenfall, are combining their 2009 submitted wind farm applications for 15 wind turbines at Mynydd Waun Fawr near Llanerfyl, Powys with their later Rhyd Ddu, Powys proposal, in order to exceed the Government’s 50mW minimum criterion.

In so doing, Vattenfall will be removing the decision from Powys County Council and placing it in the hands of central Government at Westminster.

Why? Because they know that Powys County Council is now opposed to the wholesale destruction of their county with hundreds of gigantic 475ft wind turbines in the offing, whilst Westminster Energy Minister, Ed Davey, is gung-ho for more wind energy.

Of course, Ed Davey won’t desecrate the sacred shires of his native England, whilst wind turbines can be dumped on Welsh hills . . . to supply north-west England!

The Welsh Government must get tough and protect Powys and Wales against wholesale destruction and demand to take control of such applications. They must do so, not to selfishly grab more power for themselves, but to protect Wales and its people from this ruination.

Carwyn Jones’s track record is not good. As minister, he slipped out WAGs massive TAN 8 wind energy plans on an obscure, unpublicised website on July 13, 2004, the day before he announced the hugely-publicised “Bonfire of the Quangos” the very next day.

Now he tries to play the innocent and claims that Westminster has the power over huge 50mW wind energy plans in Wales . . . not his government.

WAG should never have agreed to so much wind energy in Wales in the first place. We have far more than our share . . . in order to supply English cities.

The people of Wales need to speak out vociferously against this outrage and Carwyn Jones needs to make amends for his earlier misdemeanours, by calling a complete moratorium on these useless, highly damaging wind farm applications that are wrecking the landscapes of Wales and its tourist economy.
