North Perth waiting for provincial response to turbine concerns

Written by Shelley Miller-Cameron, Reporter | July 24th, 2013 | blackburnnews.com

The Province does not appear to be very responsive to North Perth’s wind turbine concerns.

Staff have been directed to contact the appropriate authorities about correspondence that was sent close to a year ago.

It raised a few issues related to Invenergy Canada’s proposed 26 wind turbine project involving properties in the municipality and neighbouring Perth East.

Councillor Warren Howard explains the project application is currently under review for completeness so it is important to raise issues and press for a response.

Howard claims the draft site plan includes wind turbine locations that are in conflict with existing building permits.

In his opinion that is in violation of regulations the Ministry of the Environment is suppose to be enforcing.

On the other hand, Howard is encouraged by recent comments that suggest the Province is starting to ‘get the message’ on the wind turbine issue.

He states, ‘right now there are 60 ‘unwilling host’ communities’ – North Perth is among them.
