Bolsover: Wind farm plan is rejected

A wind farm planning application to erect six turbines on land near Palterton has been rejected by Bolsover District Council’s planning committee.

Over 100 people packed into the council chamber during a meeting on Wednesday, July 17, to hear the proposal by Roseland Community Windfarm LLP to construct six wind turbines with blade tip heights of 126.5m, a 1 80m anemometer mast, a control building and substation on land east, south and west of Roseland Wood Scarcliffe.

The Planning Committee had the chance to hear from several speakers, for and against the proposal, before making their decision on the proposal.

Objectors raised concerns over the potential damaging effects on the local heritage assets and conservation areas, health problems and questioned the grants being proposed by the development.

Palterton and Community Action Group and others had raised similar concerns.

The applicants stated that the development would create £750k profit per year which would be re-invested into the community for their benefit and that the scheme had been reduced over time to help mitigate affects and harm to local heritage assets.

Councillors deliberated the decision, before rejecting the application by a vote of 11 against and 4 for on the grounds that it would have a significant detrimental impact on the local heritage assets in the landscape of the Limestone region and the impacts to these heritage assets outweighed the financial benefits that were offered.
