LOWELL, Vt. – Green Mountain Power could face fines for noise violations at its Kingdom Community Wind farm.
The turbines atop Lowell Mountain have been tested three times since the project went online. The first tests last fall and winter showed sound levels slightly exceeded permitted levels for about four hours. GMP blames the violations on a buildup of snow and ice on the turbine blades. GMP says it now has a plan to prevent that buildup.
Nonetheless, the company faces a hearing before the Public Service Board next month with the possibility of financial penalties for the excessive noise.
