Sleepover fails to get ‘real feel’ for wind farm noise

ABC News | 18 July 2013 | www.abc.net.au

A state MP says a sleepover near a wind farm in mid-north South Australia has proven inconclusive in terms of the farm’s noise impact.

Liberal David Ridgway has been among three MPs to spend the night near the Waterloo wind farm, in the Clare Valley, as part a parliamentary inquiry’s investigations.

Mr Ridgway says a single night has been inconclusive for him, with the wind in the wrong direction.

He says the inquiry yesterday heard the noise can be sporadic.

“It might only be noisy for 10 minutes at three o’clock in the morning that wakes people and then the noise abates and one of the witnesses suggested that there should be noise monitoring all the time,” he said.

“So we probably haven’t spent enough time here to get a real feel for it.”
