TOWN OF LOMIRA – Fire damaged a large wind turbine last weekend in the Forward Energy wind farm between Knowles and LeRoy in Dodge County.

The fire was reported at 12:34 a.m. Saturday at W2397 County Trunk K, according to the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office.

The Forward Energy wind farm was constructed by Invenergy. The fire took place on a turbine located in the southernmost part of the project.

Invenergy supplied a statement Tuesday that said its staff, along with local firefighters, were on scene of the fire that eventually burned itself out.

“Staff members monitored the incident, which concluded at approximately 2 a.m.,” according to the statement sent by Alissa Krinsky, director of communications at Invenergy’s Chicago office. “There were no injuries and the turbine involved in the incident is not being operated at this time. Such turbine fires are rare, and the root cause of the incident now is being determined.”
