A British diver has been killed while working on an offshore wind farm in Germany.

Reports says a a British diver died while working at the Riffgat offshore wind farm north of Borkum island, which is being developed by EWE and Enova.

Germany’s Die Welt magazine reported that the diver, aged 26, died after being buried by a concrete mat in a water depth of 20 metres (66 feet). According to the newspaper the diver was trying trying to move the mat with a colleague when he fell beneath it and was buried.

“The mats were spread for weighting of supply cables on the seabed,” Die Welt reported. “Immediately initiated resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful. An emergency room doctor who was brought from a rescue boat to the scene, could only find the death of the diver.”

EWE and Enova have been developing the wind farm with up to 30 turbines, since last year.
