Council can’t support renewables target

A top politician says his authority will refuse to back core strategy plans to generate 60 per cent of energy through renewables.

The target has been set by the central Lincolnshire planning committee as part of plans to build 42,800 new homes by 2031.

But Colin Davie, executive member for economic development at Lincolnshire County Council, says the target which is three times higher than the national objective, will lead to too many windfarms in Lincolnshire.

Speaking at a meeting of the joint central Lincolnshire planning committee on Monday, Councillor Davie said: “This is an ambitious plan and one which should go to consultation. The county council cannot support the renewable energy target of 60 per cent.

“We will be a hostage to fortune.”

“The most market-ready technology is wind so we will end up with wind turbines all over the place.

“We need the right renewable energy sources in the right locations.”
