Scituate: Wind turbine offline for weeks, manager hopeful problem is fixed

The Scituate wind turbine has been offline for more than two weeks but officials are hopeful that it’ll be back in operation within a few days.

“We expect that it’ll be online any day; if not today, certainly by the end of this week,” said Gordon Deane who’s the President of Palmer Capital Corporation, the manager of Scituate Wind LLC.

When the nearly 400-foot structure was struck by lightning, low-voltage wires were damaged and some fuses were blown.

“All of the damaged parts have been replaced and at this point we’re just working on synching with the utility. We’re waiting for some additional guidance on that to synch it with the utility,” said Deane during a phone interview Wednesday morning

Deane estimates that the Scituate wind turbine produces an average of $1,700 a day in revenue.

With the turbine being offline for weeks, more than $20,000 in revenue has been lost.

However, officials don’t believe the Town of Scituate will take a hit because the town buys energy at a discounted rate. The turbine is still expected to generate its bargained energy for the year.
