Jewett appointed to Energy Committee

Falmouth selectmen unanimously appointed David Jewett to the Energy Committee on July 1, following several questions from the board related to last spring’s controversy that occurred when the Energy Committee opposed Falmouth selectmen’s recommendation to fund removal of the town’s wind turbines.

Selectman Doug Jones questioned whether Jewett believes the Energy Committee should implement policy or follow the guidelines and recommendations of the selectmen. “We are not in the implementation business. We are more in the [business of] instruction and studying and providing information and goals and making recommendation,” Jewett responded.

Selectwoman Mary Pat Flynn questioned Jewett on the goals of the Energy Committee. “At the moment, we are focused on revamping the policy statement, developed in the past, and to see if there are improvements we can make to that,” he said.

Jewett also said he hopes the Energy Committee will continue to support the escrow process, when appropriate, and is “constantly looking for ways to save the town money.”

Selectman Chairman Brent Putnam asked Jewett what he believes is the role of Energy Committee. “To review the energy use by the town and provide implementation ideas, goals, and suggestions to the selectmen. We are a committee for the selectmen,” he said.

Jewett twas the only applicant for the open position on the Energy Committee.
