Appeal over Louth Canal Wind Energy Project

An appeal has been lodged against the decision to refuse planning permission for the Louth Canal Wind Energy Project.

Partnerships for Renewables says East Lindsey District Council ‘missed an opportunity’ when it threw out plans in April to build three wind turbines at the canal.

The appeal has been submitted to the planning inspectorate and a planning inspector will now rule on the plans, possibly following a public inquiry.

Jerry Sturman, Regional Manager at Partnerships for Renewables said: “We were very disappointed with the decision of ELDC to reject our original application on highly subjective grounds.

“We have spent several years undertaking detailed technical studies of the site and extensive community engagement. The proposal has been informed by both these technical studies and community feedback.

“In refusing this well designed project ELDC has missed an opportunity to make a significant contribution towards the UK’s renewable energy generation, on a site that many local people were happy to support in writing to the council.”

In a statement they said they had doubled a benefit package for the project.
