Plans for more wind turbines in village

Plans for three more wind turbines in Tetney have been unveiled – next to land already earmarked for eight.

West Coast Energy haS submitted plans for a scoping exercise at Southfield Farm – next to Bishopthorpe Farm – for three turbines measuring up to 115m high.

Although this is the first stage of a potential application, members of the Marsh Windfarm Action Group (MWAG) have vowed to fight it all the way.

MWAG chairman Melvin Grovenor said: “This application totally justifies the formation of our group. We will be extremely active in opposing this.”

The land is next to Bishopthorpe Farm, where ASC Renewables wants to erect eight 105m-high turbines next to two existing turbines at Anglian Water’s Newton Marsh plant – bringing the total to 13 turbines.

The application comes as Partnership For Renewables formally lodges its appeal to East Lindsey District Council’s refusal for three turbines at nearby Louth Canal, North Thoresby.

Meanwhile, permission has been granted for three 45m turbines near Outholme Lane, Tetney.

Mr Grovenor continued: “It is going to go from having nothing at the end of last year to this massive attack on this area.

“This area is becoming a free-for-all for applications, divided up between developers.

“If all these applications were by one developer, the attack would be obvious, so they divide it up so each application looks smaller.

“Their worst nightmare is someone like me who sees the bigger picture. When you talk about one ‘small’ application, in one area, the opposition become ‘nimby residents’, but when you step back and look up, you see the bigger picture.

“These small, local communities don’t know what is going to hit them.

“This is all part and parcel of these big developers’ strategy.”

Steve Salt, planning and public affairs director for West Coast Energy, stressed their application was separate to others and it was still early in the planning.

He said: “This is only a scoping exercise. We are not saying we will be making an application.

“I appreciate other people have different views.

“A lot of people will say this is a great thing, we are trying to produce our own energy rather than depend on other countries.

“If we decide to progress with it, we will make sure the community is fully involved.”
