Clinton County to stay ‘wind farm free’

Last month, the Clinton County board of commissioners approved a non-binding motion to keep the county wind farm free.

“I actually wanted to put it to bed before they came,” President Skip Evans said.

However, at meeting on Monday, Evans said they heard about two hours worth of conversation regarding wind farms and energy in Clinton County.

Evans said while they heard arguments from both sides Monday, he’s had more than 100 residents against the idea come to him with their concerns during the past few months.

Some of the concerns include noise and poor internet and cell phone reception.

“I was actually mowing my yard the other day and I had three people stop and tell me they didn’t want them,” Evans explained.

Meanwhile, Evans has had about four people come to him that are in favor of bringing wind farms to Clinton County.

But he said he believes the only people in favor of it are those who are going to make a profit.

“I tell you, it’s not about money, it’s about people with me,” Evans said. “It’s about quality of life. It’s about all the citizens of Clinton County, not just those who stand to profit.”

Evans said until more of his constituents show interest for wind farms in Clinton County, the motion to keep the county wind farm free will stay in place.
