Clean Line Energy waiting on utilities permit approval

A major project for O’Brien County is backed by Clean Line Energy.

The Texas-based company’s plan is to transport the energy generated by wind farms in Iowa to Illinois. That would create about 500 long-term jobs, with many of those in Siouxland.

For now, the project is waiting to get approval of its utilities permit, but overall, county leaders say Clean Line’s planning is coming together. The company has figured out its route, which will extend beyond O’Brien County.

“They have to have a whole lot of towers, and that may go all the way into Clay, some into Osceola, some into Lyon, they may even go into South Dakota. They’re going to draw from a long ways,” said Tom Farnsworth, chairman of the O’Brien County Board of Supervisors.

Clean Line hopes to have its project up and running by 2018.
