Windmill towers going up soon in Orangeville

The first windmill tower section at the Orangeville Wind Farm will likely occur in a month or two.

The tower section is scheduled for late July or early August, Invenergy officials confirmed Monday. It’s expected all 58 turbines will be installed by early fall, with commercial operations starting by the end of the year.

In the meantime, full construction is under way on the project, the officials said. Contractors had installed 75 percent of the access roads and poured one third of the foundations bases. The existing construction schedule calls for the access roads to be completed by mid-summer, with all foundations to be completed by the end of summer.

The project was formerly known as the Stony Creek Wind Farm, but changed its name in April, due to confusion with a similarly-named wind farm in Pennsylvania.

Each of the wind farm’s turbines would have a generating capacity of 1.6 megawatts each. The turbines will be about 430 feet tall.
