DENMARK: Dong Energy’s shift in focus from onshore to offshore took a significant step today with the announcement that it is selling its onshore wind business in Denmark.

Danish energy company SE and the PFA pension fund are paying EUR 102 million for 272 wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 196MW across around 80 sites.

According to Windpower Intelligence, the majority of the projects are in the 2-5MW range, with few turbines above 2MW.

The turbines have an average operational track record of 16 years, but the sale includes a 23MW wind farm that is still at an early stage in development.

Dong made clear its intention to sell onshore assets to fund offshore development in a new strategy and financial action plan published in February.

“With the agreement to divest our Danish onshore business, we are taking a further step towards the realisation of that plan,” said Dong Energy CEO Henrik Poulsen.

“Our competences and capital will be deployed in offshore wind where we have a strong and differentiated competitive platform.”
