Amherstburg unwilling host to turbines

The Town of Amherstburg is now an unwilling host to wind turbine projects.

They’ve sent a letter off to the province stating the town does not want any more wind turbine projects until a federal health study has been completed and municipal authority is reinstated.

Councillor John Sutton is hopeful the motion will make a difference. “Doing nothing would be worse and I think it’s important for the municipalities to have a say in local planning initiatives and this is one where there’s so much data out there on both sides of the issue. It’s harmless, it’s harmful, there are long term health effects, there are no health effects. So we really need that good data in order make good decisions and really that’s what this is all about.”

There is currently one wind turbine project within the town. Sutton says if the municipality had control they would have been more stringent on set backs for the turbines.
