New wind farm plan is set to be revealed

Lutterworth Mail | 21 June 2013 | www.lutterworthmail.co.uk/

A renewable energy company is holding a public exhibition in Lutterworth to unveil plans for a new four-turbine wind farm in the area.

The plans are for a site which lies to the north of the village of Churchover and west of the A5 between Rugby and Lutterworth, pictured.

It is the latest wind farm proposal to come to the Lutterworth area.

Wind farms have already been built in Swinford and another one at Low Spinney near Dunton Bassett, Ashby Magna and Gilmorton.

Old proposals for the Churchover site were for nine turbines but those plans submitted by SSE, were turned down by Rugby Borough Council and SSE did not pursue it any further.

Dan Patterson, project manager from new applicants RES, said: “This site was previously subject to a larger wind farm application by SSE, which comprised nine turbines.

“However, it became clear people were concerned about the number of turbines and their proximity to local settlements.

“Having acquired the option to develop the site, RES has taken the opportunity to reassess the design and respond to concerns by reducing the number of turbines and siting them further from housing.”

A consultation on the new application is taking place at Lutterworth Golf Club in Rugby Road between midday and 4pm on Wednesday.

Mr Patterson added: “We hope that people will come along to our events and ask any questions they might have, as well as giving us their views about our plans for the site.”
