Wind meeting gets animated

LIMESTONE – While Wednesday’s meeting to discuss a road-use agreement between the town of Carrollton and EverPower Wind Holdings LLC started out civilly, tempers flared later on in the evening.

The meeting, held at the Town of Carrollton Municipal Building, was attended by 35 to 40 people from the towns of Carrollton and Allegany.

Town Supervisor Dave Frederick started out by telling the audience the session was an informational meeting to discuss a possible road-use agreement with EverPower for the transportation of wind turbine materials and equipment to a site in the town of Allegany.

The company had received permission from town of Allegany officials in 2011 to build a $160 million wind farm in Knapp Creek and Chipmonk. The controversial 29-wind turbine farm was initially delayed by a lawsuit filed by Concerned Citizens of Cattaraugus County, which dropped the lawsuit in July. Other issues that have created delays for the project have been an additional lawsuit filed by EverPower against the town of Allegany that remains in the courts. There has also been resistance from the towns of Allegany and Carrollton regarding the transportation routes to the construction sites.
