Opponents of wind turbines must speak up soon

There are now just five days left for members of the public to submit their objections or observations to Cork County Council regarding the proposed Ardglass wind turbines. The Ardglass Wind Turbine Action Awareness Group are reminding people that submissions will not be accepted after Tuesday, June 25 at 4pm.

“If you don’t let your thoughts on the wind farm development be known to Cork County Council Planning Department in writing or online, your views will be unheard and ignored. Also, if you don’t make a comment at this stage, you cannot comment if the development is appealed to An Bord Pleanala”, a spokesperson said.

“If built today, these would be the highest turbines in Ireland or the UK, 156.5 metres (513 feet), 115 feet higher than the Dublin spire and over 293 feet higher than the Cork County Hall which is a high building by any standard and the building where you have to send your objections/observations.

“As well as the huge visual impact the awareness group also have concerns about noise, shadow flicker and property values,” a spokesperson for the awareness group told The Avondhu.

The awareness group also wished to advise people that if they are making a submission, they should quote the planning reference 13-4959 and a payment of €20 should be made out to the Planning Department of Cork County Council.

If anyone requires information, they can contact a member of the Ardglass Wind Turbine Awareness Group on 087 6251291, by e-mail on ardglassturbine@gmail.com, or visit the website www.ardglass.org or Facebook page
