DANC not eligible for wind project funds, PSC says

June 20, 2013 | www.wwnytv.com

The state Public Service Commission has ruled the Development Authority of the North Country (DANC) is not eligible for funds that would allow it to hire a lawyer to represent its interests in a Cape Vincent wind power project.

DANC had requested $10,000 that would help it determine how the project would affect the water pipeline it maintains in Cape Vincent.

The PSC ruled that DANC is a state agency and not eligible for the money. Only entities considered “local” are eligible for funds.

The “intervenor funds”, as they’re called, allow interested parties to defray costs they might incur during the wind farm pre-application process.

BP Wind Energy has plans to develop a 200 to 285 megawatt wind power farm in the town of Cape Vincent.

This the second time the PSC has ruled against DANC. DANC appealed the first ruling.
