About 150 feet of copper wire worth an estimated $10,000 was stolen from disassembled wind turbines stored in a parking area in Somerset County.

The theft occurred between 8 p.m. May 29 and 6 a.m. June 11 in the lot along North Center Avenue in Somerset Township, state police said.

About 150 feet of 1-inch coated copper wire was cut from two turbines, then taken through a wooded area where it was loaded into a vehicle in the Happy Valley Baptist Church parking lot and hauled away, police said.

The turbines belong to AES Wind Generation of Dallas.

Police estimated the turbine repair costs at $5,000.

Anyone with information is asked to call the state police at Somerset at 814-445-4104.
