Transport Canada orders removal of eight wind turbines in Chatham-Kent

Transport Canada has issued a removal order for eight wind turbines in Chatham-Kent.

The wind turbines in question are in a restricted zone around the airport.

Chatham-Kent Essex MP Dave Van Kesteren says it’s the first time he’s heard of this happening in the province.

“It’s unfortunate, but you have to remember that the safety of Canadians is paramount,” says Van Kesteren. “In this case rules are rules.”

He says Transport Canada officials have been working on this for a few months.

Van Kesteren doesn’t know why the turbines were put in close proximity to the airport in the first place.

“Transport Canada did give them the perimetres, so why they ended up inside of those, I don’t have an answer to that,” says Van Kesteren.
