Clifton Planning Board sets stage for review of wind farm project

Clifton town officials have set the stage to review a decision allowing a wind farm in town.

They determined the public won’t be able to comment on the project, this time around.

Last month, a judge ordered the planning board to review height and sound issues for the project.

The town has already given developers a permit to build five wind turbines on Pisgah Mountain, but Clifton residents Peter and Julie Beckford are appealing that.

The head of the planning board says officials decided Wednesday night that both parties will turn in written arguments early next month.

They’ll have a chance to state their cases at a meeting in mid-July.

The planning board will then send the information back to the judge who’ll decide if the project can go forward.
